Boston Fern
Nephrolepis exalta bostoniensis · Dryopteridaceae
How it looks
Boston Fern is a very popular fern with long, soft, deeply divided feather-shaped fronds that arch like a fountain. The fronds are soft and a light deep-green, it is grown as a hanging plant, and it reaches about 20 in to 3 ft (50 cm-1 m) tall.
This is one of the classic cat-safe plants. Some cats like to chew on the leaves, but it has no known toxicity.
Guide for parents
A safe plant, but its trailing leaves can read as a toy to a cat. It loves humidity and often ends up in the bathroom — but other bathroom chemicals (cleaners, air fresheners) can be more dangerous to your cat than the plant, so check those too. Hanging it high in a basket protects the plant and blocks access at the same time. The care point is keeping the soil consistently just slightly moist.
