Dainty Rabbits-Foot Fern
Davallia fejeensis · Davalliaceae
How it looks
The Dainty Rabbits-Foot Fern is a fern with very finely divided, feather-like fronds and fuzzy, gray-brown 'feet' (rhizomes) that creep over the edge of the pot. The fronds are soft and graceful, and it grows 12-20 in (30-50 cm) tall.
Dainty Rabbits-Foot Fern is a fern with no known toxicity to cats according to the ASPCA. A nibble or two is unlikely to cause any real trouble.
Guide for parents
The fuzzy rhizomes easily catch a cat's interest. It's a safe plant, but pick up fallen fronds the same day. It loves humidity, so a bathroom suits it well — just check separately for chemical exposure there. Hung in a hanging basket, it stays out of paw's reach, keeping both plant and cat comfortable. Provide moisture by misting once or twice a week or with an occasional soak.
