Haworthia
Haworthia species · Asphodelaceae
How it looks
Haworthia is a small succulent that grows in short, tight clusters of thick, triangular, fleshy leaves. Many varieties have dark green leaves with white markings or stripes, and at 2-6 in (5-15 cm) across they are popular as potted bonsai-style plants.
Haworthia is a succulent listed as non-toxic to cats by the ASPCA. It may look like aloe, but it has no latex, making it safe.
Guide for parents
Haworthia looks like aloe but is a non-toxic succulent. Keeping the two plants apart avoids any mix-up. Its leaves are firm, so cats don't chew them often, but make a habit of clearing any that break off the same day. It prefers bright, indirect light over direct sun, and the key is to water only after the soil has dried out completely. A shaded spot by a window is the most ideal place for it.
