Peacock Plant
Calathea makoyana · Marantaceae
How it looks
The Peacock Plant (Calathea makoyana) is a foliage plant whose leaves bear feather-like markings in dark green, light green, and purple, drawn like a peacock's tail. The undersides of the leaves are purple, and the leaves fold upward at night. It grows 12-24 in (30-60 cm) tall.
Peacock Plant (Peacock Plant) has no known toxicity to cats. It's known for leaf patterns that resemble peacock feathers.
Guide for parents
The showy leaf patterns easily draw a cat's visual interest. It's a safe plant, but the delicate leaves get damaged with frequent batting. A shelf out of reach is a good spot for both the plant and your cat. Calatheas love humidity and indirect light, so a shaded spot near a window suits them well. Curling or browning leaves signal a lack of humidity.
